About the Department

Dauntless Fire Company, Cambria County Station 22, has been proudly serving the citizens of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania since 1836. DFC responds to about 400 alarms per year. The primary coverage area is comprised of Ebensburg Borough and a portion of Cambria Township. There are approximately 150 members comprised of active members, support responders, Jr Firefighters (14-15 & 16-17) and 2nd Alarm members. DFC houses a Rescue/Engine, Engine, Rescue, Tower, Tanker, Brush Unit, 2 Utilities and the County Hazmat Unit.

Joining the fire company can give you that chance and so much more. The fire company gives you a chance to do things you can’t do on a normal basis. You will have an opportunity to lend a helping hand to your friends and neighbors, make a profound difference in someone’s time of need, and potentially save a life. Many members have also used the volunteer fire service as a springboard into a rewarding career in firefighting, a medical profession, or any number of other emergency services related fields.
By volunteering with Dauntless Fire Company you are joining a family, a lifelong friendship that can not be broken.

Recruitment Categories:

Active Members – After serving one year of probation and obtaining the required training, the duties of these personnel include: Interior Firefighting, Vehicle Rescue, Hazardous Material Responses, Wildland Firefighting, and handle many other types of emergency responses.

Junior Firefighter (14-15) – These members can begin training at an early age and have a head start on becoming a front line firefighter. These members are encouraged to assist the fire company training sessions, participate in events such as demolition derbies, bon fires, fire prevention activities, fundraising, and summer firefighting competitions. These members are not permitted to respond to fire scene until they are 16 years of age.

Junior Firefighters (16-17) – These members are permitted to respond on the apparatus to the scene. They are permitted to take more advanced classes, but are not permitted to run any power equipment, or enter any burning buildings. These members are given more responsibility under careful supervision of the senior members. The Pennsylvania State Child Labor Laws regulate the entire junior program.

Second Alarm Members – This is a highly talented group of members that do not wish to handle emergency responses, but still have a great interest in helping the community. These members come from various backgrounds, and provide many important qualities needed for the day to day operations of the fire department.

Support Responder – Support Responder is a member that compliments those members identified as “Firefighters”. This member will provide assistance in a limited role at the emergency/incident with their involvement relevant to there respective training. Support operations included but are not limited to traffic control, medical emergencies, severe weather operations, emergency management operations, fire ground support including water supply, scene lighting, brush fires, mobilization of equipment and any other operation in which properly trained.

We strive to protect lives and property within our primary coverage area and also the coverage areas of our mutual aid departments.

Benefits Offered:

  • Company Functions such as Family Picnic at the Borough Pool, Company Picnic, Company Banquet, Ebensburg Community functions.
  • Members and Family members are offered free membership to the gym at the YPPC.
  • Members have the opportunity to earn a Run Stipend for making apparatus. Members earn $5.00 an alarm, $500 max.
  • Life Insurance Benefits.
