About the Department

The Gallitzin Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization founded in September of 1903.

The Gallitzin Fire Company provides volunteer fire prevention, suppression, rescue services and quick response service (QRS) to the residents, visitors and those traveling through Gallitzin Borough, Tunnelhill Borough, Gallitzin Township and neighboring communities. The Gallitzin and Tunnelhill Borough Councils have recognized the Gallitzin Fire Company as the primary fire service for Gallitzin and Tunnelhill Boroughs. The Gallitzin Township Supervisors have recognized the Gallitzin Fire Company as the primary fire service for certain areas of Gallitzin Township.

The Gallitzin Fire Company consists of approximately thirty (20) active volunteers, manning two (1) engine 1 rescue-engine, and (1) Utility. Service is provided from a single station located at 210 St. Thomas Street, Gallitzin, PA 16641.

The Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1 is always seeking individuals who have the desire to help the communities of Gallitzin Borough, Tunnelhill Borough and Gallitzin Township and the Gallitzin Fire Company. There are many ways that you can help from being a firefighter, junior firefighter, apparatus operator, quick response provider, fire police to assisting the department as a special duties member. Please take time to review the brief job descriptions to see if their is some way that you may be able to use your talents to help. After reviewing the information, if you feel that you are up to the challange of being a valuable asset to your community and fire company please complete the membership application and drop it off in the mail slot at the fire station.

Firefighter: As a Regular Member of the Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1, the firefighter is charged with the responsibilities of responding to emergency and non-emergency alarms, protecting lives and property through fire education, prevention and suppression of fires. Firefighters are also expected to perform basic first aid until advanced life support unit arrives. The firefighter participates in formal and informal training and maintenance activities necessary to achieve the appropriate preparedness level to safely respond to and operate at fire, rescue, disaster emergency calls, and other emergency situations while protecting life and property and supporting mitigation activities.

Junior Firefighter: As a Junior Member of the Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1, the junior firefighter is charged with the responsibilities of responding to emergency and non-emergency alarm calls, protecting lives and property through fire education and fire prevention. The junior firefighter participates in formal and informal training activities necessary to achieve the appropriate preparedness level to safely respond to and operate at fire, rescue, disaster emergency calls, and other emergency situations while protecting life and property and supporting mitigation activities.

Emergency Vehicle Operator: As a Regular Member of the Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1, the Emergency Vehicle Operator is charged with the responsibilities of responding to emergency and non-emergency alarms to safely drive emergency vehicles and properly operate the pumps on fire engines. The Emergency Vehicle Operator participates in formal and informal training and maintenance activities necessary to achieve the appropriate preparedness level to safely respond to and operate at emergency situations.

QRS Provider: As a Regular or Junior Member of the Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1, the Quick Response Service (QRS) provider is charged with the responsibilities of responding to QRS calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured. The QRS provider participates in formal and informal training and maintenance activities necessary to achieve the appropriate preparedness level to safely respond to and operate at emergency situations.

Fire Police Officer: As a Regular Member of the Gallitzin Fire Company, No. 1, the fire police officer is charged with the responsibilities of responding to emergency and non-emergency alarm calls, protecting lives and property of civilians and emergency service personnel through traffic control, scene control and other means of scene control. The fire police officer participates in formal and informal training and maintenance activities necessary to achieve the appropriate preparedness level to safely respond to and operate at fire, rescue, disaster emergency calls, and other emergency situations while protecting life and property and supporting mitigation activities.

Special Duties Members: This is a very talented group of members that do not wish to participate in emergency response, but still have an interest in helping the community and their fire company. These members come from various backgrounds and provide many important qualities needed for the day to day operations of the fire company such as participating in fundraising efforts, construction / renovations, equipment repairs, etc. The duties of a special duties member is only limited by what you want to participate in.
